Community Microgrid Assistance Partnership

NLR facilitates microgrid assistance and knowledge-sharing to improve electricity service in remote and electrically isolated areas of the United States.

NLR manages the Community Microgrid Assistance Partnership (C-MAP), funded by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Electricity. C-MAP provides remote and electrically isolated communities and industries with funding, technical assistance, and other resources to build, operate, and enhance microgrid systems that improve the affordability, reliability, and security of local electricity service.

Building Microgrid Success and Knowledge

C-MAP connects individuals and organizations to share and build microgrid knowledge through the Community Microgrid Innovation Exchange (C-MIX). C-MIX offers a free library of data and resources, peer-to-peer exchanges, and training and workshops that share lessons learned and support the replication of microgrid innovations across the United States.

Register for upcoming events and browse more than 500 microgrid resources through the C-MIX.

Microgrid Support Services

C-MAP provides three levels of on-demand Microgrid Support Services ranging from a 1-hour consultation with a national laboratory expert to up to 60 hours of tailored support.

Apply for Microgrid Support Services through the C-MIX.

Microgrid Funding

C-MAP is now accepting proposals for $200,000–$575,000 in microgrid project funding and up to 24 months of technical assistance.

Register for the informational webinar on May 26, 2026, on Zoom.

Learn more and submit a proposal by July 2, 2026, on Sam.gov.

In June 2025, the C-MAP pilot cohort announced $2.5 million in project funding for 14 projects spanning 37 towns and villages involving 20 partner organizations. The cohort also includes $1 million in microgrid technical assistance, delivered through Department of Energy national laboratories and local partners. Read summaries of the selected projects on the Office of Electricity’s C-MAP website.
