About the Workshop

The Eighth International Workshop on Grid Simulator Testing of Energy Systems and Inverter-Based Resources took place in Montreal, Canada. The workshop was hosted by Hydro-Quebec and included a visit to IREQ's test facility. This workshop serves as a venue for discussing the research and testing needs and state-of-the-art apparatuses and methods involved in the grid integration testing of inverter-based resources, including energy storage, conventional generation, reliability enhancing devices, and hybrid power systems. The goal of the workshop was to encourage discussion and collaboration on grid simulator testing projects and to discuss emerging challenges of multi-megawatt grid emulation. At the workshop, the discussion included sharing field experiences from teams around the world. Attendees shared experiences in the development of new multi-megawatt grid simulator devices and advanced testing methods, including PHIL configuration, large loads emulation, and stability assessment tools.
